The top four finishers in the team standings and top 10 individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the UIL state championships, scheduled for Nov. 5-6 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Classes 1A, 3A and 5A will run the first day, with 2A, 4A and 6A competing the following day.

Including the Tigers, Katy ISD will be represented by the Cinco Ranch girls and Tompkins boys in Class 6A, as well as the Jordan girls for the first time in Class 5A. Five individual medalists from three schools qualified in 6A as well.

Katy amassed 92 points in the girls team standings to finish behind Kingwood (71) and Stratford (90), ahead of fellow regional qualifier Cinco Ranch (103) and fifth-place George Ranch (124).

The Tigers had two top-10 runners, earning a state spot with Rubio, Maddy Hunter (7th, 19:21.7), Christina Rodriguez (20th, 20:08.9), Larissa Carr (35th, 20:48.5), Thierri Knight (26th, 20:49.2), Grace Shipman (55th, 21:37.1) and Jennifer Hernandez (93rd, 22:48.1) on the course. The top five runners from each team score.

Rubio won a close race at the front with Cinco Ranch’s Alison Mueller, who was the silver medalist in 18:32.9. The Cougars were further represented by Anika Mueller (10th, 19:38.3), Helen Ulrich (15th, 19:59.6), Jennifer Edozie (42nd, 21:08.7), Camila Weatherly (44th, 21:10.5), Logan McLean (45th, 21:11.7) and Natalia Corser (54th, 21:31.1).

Mayde Creek sends junior Rachel Solano to state after her eighth-place time of 19:27.7. Senior David Livingston earned the same spot in boys competition, running a 16:09.4. The Rams will send a runner to state for the first time since 2011.

Seven Lakes finished eighth as a team in the girls standings, led by Avary Catchings (25th, 20:19.7) and Laine Heiser (37th, 20:53.1).

Tompkins was Katy ISD’s top boys team, scoring 141 points to place fourth and earn its sixth consecutive trip to Round Rock. The Falcons joined Atascocita (61), Strake Jesuit (109) and Brazoswood (111) as regional qualifiers.

The Falcons were represented by Noah Howard (21st, 16:36.6), Brian Luciano (25th, 16:42.7), Mathias Pitzel (27th, 16:45.3), Parker Wood (34th, 16:56.1), Aaron Ramshaw (57th, 17:24.4) and Diego Reyes (88th, 18:06.2).

They had just enough to hold off 19-6A rival Seven Lakes, which took fifth with 160 points led by individual qualifiers Ruben Rojas (3rd, 15:40.5) and Matthew Montgomery (17th, 16:27.9). Mayde Creek finished seventh with 206 points, paced by Livingston and Anthony Perez (33rd, 16:55.9).

Katy ISD took four of the 10 individual state berths in the boys race, including Cinco Ranch junior Adrian Hahn Vadstein’s fourth-place time of 15:44.0. Only six runners broke the 16-minute mark, led by Stratford’s Emanuel Galdino (15:09.2) and Dawson’s Noah Haileab (15:09.5).

Jordan, in its second year of competition, proved to be among the best in Region III-5A. The Falcons amassed 138 points to place third and join regional qualifiers College Station (87), Friendswood (88) and La Porte (144).

The Warriors were represented by Ximena Lopez (9th, 19:30.8), Addison Sutton (15th, 19:49.7), Beatriz Laepple (26th, 20:24.8), Isabella Ramos (41st, 20:59.2), Keira Kaunisto (60th, 21:45.8), M.J. Leviaguirre (73rd, 22:06.4) and Mia Hough (104th, 23:08.7).
